Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is not just about relieving pain; it is about enhancing even the seemingly healthy person’s function, performance, and quality of life.  Chiropractic care ensures that the spine works properly to maximize normal nerve flow and minimize pressure on the nervous system from stress and postural strain or injury, leading to pain, dysfunction, and decreased quality of life. People of all ages are turning to chiropractic as a safe and effective alternative to medication and surgery for a wide variety of health issues. The goal of chiropractic care is to relieve pain, promote healing, restore, and maintain function, reduce the likelihood of re-injury, restore proper motion, and prevent accelerated degenerative spine disease.  The chiropractor’s role is to facilitate and increase the potential for health so we can live life to its fullest.

  • Pediatric Chiropractic – As parents, we always strive to provide the best possible care for our children. When it comes to their health and well-being, exploring different avenues of holistic healthcare can be beneficial.

Pediatric chiropractic care involves the evaluation and treatment of spinal         and musculoskeletal conditions in children. Chiropractors specializing in           pediatric care receive specialized training to understand young patients’           unique anatomy and development. They use gentle and safe techniques to       address any spinal misalignments or dysfunctions, known as subluxations,       that may be impacting a child’s health.

The spine plays a crucial role in the nervous system’s function, and                     subluxations can interfere with the proper communication between the             brain and the rest of the body. Pediatric chiropractors use gentle                         adjustments and manipulations tailored to the child’s age and size to                 correct these subluxations, supporting optimal nervous system function.

Best Milestones for Spinal Checkups

Did you know that the best time to get your spine checked for subluxations is when you’re an infant? The nervous system is needed for the proper growth and development of children. There are “windows of opportunity” when certain parts of the body and brain grow. If the nervous system is not working when the opportunity arises, it could be missed.

We recommend visits shortly after the birth process, as your baby starts to hold their head up, as they are learning to sit up, then as they begin to crawl, stand, and walk.

Benefits of Pediatric Chiropractic

Enhanced Development and Function: Pediatric chiropractic care can improve a child’s overall development by ensuring proper spinal alignment and nervous system function. This can include cognitive function, motor skills, coordination, and sensory processing improvements.

Improved Immune System Function: The nervous and immune systems are closely interconnected. Pediatric chiropractic adjustments can help optimize immune system function, potentially reducing the frequency and severity of common childhood illnesses. A healthy immune system means fewer sick days and a stronger defense against infections.

Management of Musculoskeletal Conditions: Pediatric chiropractors are skilled in managing various musculoskeletal conditions commonly experienced by children. These may include colic, ear infections, torticollis, scoliosis, and sports-related injuries. By addressing the underlying cause of these conditions, chiropractic care can provide long-lasting relief and promote healing.

Support for Neurodevelopmental Disorders: While chiropractic care does not cure neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD or ASD, it can provide supportive benefits. Chiropractic care may help improve behavior, focus, and overall well-being in children with these conditions by optimizing nervous system function.

  • Prenatal Chiropractic – As your belly grows and the weight begins to get heavier and shift positions, it is not uncommon (but not normal) to begin to experience pain. Studies have found that about half of all expectant mothers will develop low-back pain at some point during their pregnancies. This is especially true during late pregnancy, when the baby’s head presses down on a woman’s back, legs, and buttocks, irritating her sciatic nerve. And for those who already suffer from low-back pain, the problem can become even worse. Ensuring that your pelvis is in correct alignment, will create less stress and pressure on your spine, and it also result in a shorter labor time!

Delivering Great Results

Many pregnant women have found that chiropractic adjustments provide relief from the increased low-back pain brought on by pregnancy. Chiropractic manipulation is safe throughout your pregnancy for you and your unborn child. In addition, it can be beautiful for those trying to avoid medications in treating their back pain. Doctors of chiropractic can also offer nutrition, ergonomic, and exercise advice to help you enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

Chiropractic care can also help after childbirth. In the eight weeks following labor and delivery, the ligaments that loosened during pregnancy begin to tighten up again. Ideally, joint problems brought on during pregnancy from improper lifting or reaching should be treated before the ligaments return to their pre-pregnancy state to prevent muscle tension, headaches, rib discomfort, and shoulder problems.

If you are expecting or thinking of having a baby, it makes perfect sense to have a checkup by a Chiropractor so you can experience the benefits of a healthier pregnancy, shorter labor time, and more restful nights.

“The Webster Technique”

The official definition of the Webster Technique, as taught by the ICPA Certification program, is as follows: “The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nerve system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments. This, in turn, reduces torsion in the uterus, a cause of intra-uterine constraint of the baby and allows for optimal fetal positioning in preparation for birth.”

What is intrauterine constraint? Intrauterine constraint is defined as any forces external to the developing fetus that obstruct the fetus’s normal movement. Intrauterine constraint can prevent the developing fetus from attaining a head-down vertex position and achieving a normal vaginal birth.  When this occurs, it can be addressed with a safe, effective, and natural solution such as the Webster Technique.

The Webster Technique is a safe means to restore proper pelvic balance and function for pregnant mothers. In expectant mothers presenting breech, there has been a high reported success rate of the baby turning to the normal vertex position once the interference has been removed. The Webster Technique has been successfully used in women whose babies are transverse and posterior. It has also been successfully used with twins. Any position of the baby other than ROA may indicate sacral subluxation and, therefore, intrauterine constraint.
